After some research in forums, I found that if I left the key in the ignition (for 10-15 minutes) with all electrical ON when the engine was shut off by the immobilizer, the immobilizer light would go off eventually and all would be back to normal, the car would start and keep running. It worked every time, never needed to bypass the immobilizer.
What is an immobilizer? It is an electronic engine ignition lock, which is turned on and off either by touching a special “ keyring ” in the right place (usually around the steering column) or (in newer car models) remotely – bringing the original key to the ignition, e.g. when trying to start the engine or placing it inside the car at a
quickname. I know this might be late but here is how I did my 02 Jetta TDI. Disconnect battery for 1/2 hour or so. With the doors closed and locked reconnect battery and key in hand unlock, lock and unlock the drivers door several times. Then unlock the trunk several times. Then put in the key and vroom it should work.

This is a brought used vehicle which I didn't know had an alarm. I think I made a mistake and activated it through the ignition alarm when I parked and shut off the engine. It seems like it has a duel alarm. I can deactivate the alarm by locking the doors and unlocking with the Re: Possible to disable immobilizer. The immob fault is probably a one off. If the starting problem is the immobiliser, the engine will start for 1 or 2 seconds and then stop. Your problem could be air in the fuel lines, coolant temp sensor, starter, battery voltage & earth, timing, temp sensor or glow plug fault.

The dealership quoted me something around $200 to perform immobilizer defeat on the new ECU but they also said I would need to get new keys (even more money). I have vag-com and I am aware you can perform it through that aslong as you have the 4 digit SKC
